ChatGPT Decline: When AI Stops Listening and Starts Looping

We used to fear AI would take our jobs. Now we fear it can’t take basic instructions.

A year ago, people were using ChatGPT to write novels, debug code, run marketing campaigns, and brainstorm business plans. 

Today? 

They're rage-canceling subscriptions because it can’t remember a single setting, follow a single instruction, or stop doing the very things users explicitly asked it not to do.

This isn't a hypothetical warning.

And the wild part? 

We thought we were the only ones feeling it.

You ask ChatGPT to do something ("no em dashes," "no fluff," "just do the task").

And it acts like the word "STOP" is a suggestion instead of a command. It doesn't feel powerful. It feels broken.

Worse, it feels evasive. The one thing AI was supposed to offer—brutal processing power, cold clarity—is buried under a smiling layer of scripted apologies and polite misunderstandings.

So yeah, maybe the fear of AI was premature. Maybe it's not our jobs we need to worry about. 

Maybe it’s just wasting our time.

Trust Is the Real Interface

The real product isn’t the model. It’s not the UI. It’s not the subscription.

It’s trust.

If users don’t trust what comes back, the whole illusion breaks. Doesn’t matter how big the context window is, or how fast it can summarize PDFs. None of it matters if people walk away thinking:
