Who's Your Daddy: A Guide to Networking in 2023

Sometimes knowing the steps not to take is just as valuable as having a clear roadmap to success; taking the conventional wisdom of the past and flipping it on its head is a sure path to 2023 vibes.

Networking in the new year is easier than ever before because YOU make the rules; hangout where the clients are, follow these 5 steps and always remember- if they don’t want you, you don’t want them. Mic drop.

Say What You Mean

Being able to say what you mean and mean what you say is an important part of being successful in startups and let’s be honest-in life too... Putting your money, and efforts, where your mouth is creates phenomenal word of mouth and helps build a reputation of reliability and dependability which can help you succeed in the long run. Don't forget that in 2023 cash is king or consistent cash flow that is, and being reliable ensures that relationships remain strong, and trust is at an all-time high.

Do the Opposite

Thinking outside the box and taking a different approach than your competitors, is a sure-fire way to gain an advantage in the market. Consistency with your strategy during a recession is also key; thinking of recession as an opportunity shifts the paradigm and can ensure you don’t lose out on potential customers or sales opportunities; this can be a great way to stand out from the competition and get your startup noticed in a crowded marketplace.

Be Direct

In business, being direct is key to success. You’re not selling anything – you’re helping people solve their problems. To do this, you must figure out the problem and then provide a solution that goes above and beyond. It’s important to remain a taskmaster and tell it like it is – don’t sugarcoat or make false promises. Being direct in your marketing and in your business relationships will help you build trust with your customers and increase that coveted cash flow.

Do for Others

Paying it forward in business is an important pillar that should be embraced by all professionals in 2023 and beyond. Never asking others to do something for you but always asking them to do something for someone else is the way to create good vibes in your business ecosystem, and those vibes help create goodwill and spread opportunity. They show respect for the people around you and encourage them to do the same. Keep your eye on the prize, be fruitful and share the wealth- it’s those 2023 vibes all the way.

Develop Deep Relationships

Building deep relationships with potential and current clients is an essential part of any successful startup. It’s important to not just be a “commodity” but to become a trusted confidante that the client can rely on. Becoming indispensable keeps you in the game and becoming a client evangelist will help ensure longevity in that relationship.

No one really knows what they are doing out here in the wild west of startups or where the market will take us this year- we are all just doing the best we can and faking it until we are making it; it being those benjamins.

Whether following the rules or breaking them- 2023 is the year of innovation and there is no substitute for hard work and dedication to excellence.

Knowing the lay of the land and turning networking on its head while being your own biggest advocate is the way to bridge the gap from startup to success.
